Is this tournament open to only Pop Warner teams?
This event is open to all flag teams, regardless of affiliation. Pop Warner teams are encouraged to compete, and our partnership with NFL FLAG opens to opportunity to all those teams as well.
Is Team registration different than Player registration?
Yes. You can register your team first. Then, coordinate with your players to flesh out your roster. In that process, you’ll be able to direct the system to distribute player registration links to each player on your team. Those parents/guardians will then complete the player registration piece. After all the information is in the system, we’ll begin certifying teams for the tournament.
What about hotels… does I book those at the point of Team registration?
While this is a stay-to-play event, it is not required to book a hotel at the time you register your team for this event. You will be sent a hotel booking link with our partner hotels upon team registration.
Our Pop Warner team is playing tackle football this fall. Since we’re not an official flag football team in Pop Warner’s roster software, can we still compete in the event?
Yes. All you need to do is organize a team of 10 players and register for the event. You will register your team and roster through the official event registration portal. You do not need to roster a team in Pop Warner’s official roster software, although it may be helpful to you in managing the roster.
Just so I understand, we do not need our official Pop Warner roster – the one that is required in roster software for the full fall season – to register for the Crown Classic flag football tournament.
This event falls outside of the seasonal model we use for tackle and flag football. Therefore, your tournament roster is not required to be a team in our official roster software. However, you are required to submit an official tournament roster through the Crown Classic event registration portal. The required documents are similar to those required for tackle football, but are more closely aligned with a typical flag football tournament.
My Pop Warner flag team includes more than 10 players. Do I need to reduce my team size to participate in the Crown Classic?
Yes. The Crown Classic event is a 5v5 format with a max of 10 players on each team to ensure ample game plays for each player. If a Pop Warner season team exceeds 10 players, one option is to split the roster and register two teams for this tournament.
If this is a partnership between Pop Warner and NFL FLAG, what rule book applies?
This event will use the NFL FLAG rules for 5v5 tournament game play, with a max of 10 athletes and 2 coaches. Click here to access those rules.
What Pop Warner rules apply to this tournament?
We’ll be enforcing our Codes of Conduct and driving registration and communications. Game play rules align with NFL FLAG 5v5 tournaments.
Are we required to upload any documents or files as part of the registration process?
Team registration does not require any files, but Player registration does require a player photo and a document to help us verify the player’s correct age. So when the registration process reaches parents and legal guardians, they will be asked to upload files directly.
I’m a Pop Warner team and have already had my players’ ages verified earlier this season. Do my players still need to provide a document for age verification?
Yes. The Player registration part of the event registration process will require each player to upload a photo and a document to help us verify the player’s correct age. With the way the registration process works, a player’s parent or legal guardian can upload the files directly.
Am I able to have players on my flag team that are also on Pop Warner tackle teams committed to compete in the Pop Warner Super Bowl?
The short answer is “no.” This is something we’ll be paying close attention to. Obviously, we need to set brackets in advance of each event – the Crown Classic and the Super Bowl. With Super Bowl championship games set for the same days as our Crown Classic flag tournament, the best way to ensure there is no conflict in scheduling that it disrupts the event.
If my team competes in the Pop Warner Super Bowl but is eliminated before the start of the Crown Classic, can we register our kids to compete in the flag tournament?
Unfortunately, you will most likely not be able to do that. Registration for the Crown Classic is set to close three weeks prior to the start of the flag tournament. By the time your team is eliminated from the Pop Warner Super Bowl, the flag tournament bracket will have already been set.
