Pop Warner Names New Football Commissioner

LANGHORNE, PA – Pop Warner Little Scholars, the leading national youth football governing body, has named Clarence Curry III as its new National Football Commissioner.

In his new role as football commissioner, Curry will lead Pop Warner’s youth football programs, which encompass more than 80 leagues and nearly 800 local programs across 30 states. This includes development and management of tackle football, 7v7 football, rookie tackle and flag football, as well as national and regional competitions, and any camps, clinics and training. This position also has supervision of regional football operations, and works closely with other departments, including cheer & dance and scholastics.

Curry graduated from Villanova University, where he studied Communications and helped lead the football team to the Division I-AA National Championship semifinals. During his career, he was two-time All-Conference and helped the school win two conference championships.

Professionally, he was originally signed by the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League and made the 53-man active roster in 2004-05. He also played for the Rhein Fire in NFL Europe, and a number of arena teams, including  Philadelphia Soul, Los Angeles Avengers, New Orleans VooDoo, Nashville Kats, Reading Express, and Lehigh Valley Steelhawks.

Curry attended Parsippany High School in Parsippany-Troy Hills, New Jersey where he was a letterman in football, basketball, and track.  He is in the Parsippany High School Hall of Fame, as well as the New Jersey High School Football Hall of Fame.

Curry joins Pop Warner after spending the last ten years focused on his Team Works Sports Academy, which has served student-athletes with coaching, training and development. He was also Community Relationship and Sponsorship Development Manager of Berks Fire Water Restorations Inc.

“As someone who has been around the sport most of his life, including at the highest levels, Clarence brings knowledge, enthusiasm and a commitment to make our football experience the best it can be for young people,” said Pop Warner Executive Director Jon Butler. “Clarence appreciates the role the sport can play in helping to shape young people when it is done right.”

"I am beyond excited to be named national football commissioner,” said Curry.  “Pop Warner is the gold standard when it comes to youth football, and in this role I can combine my love for the game, with my passions of student-athlete advancement, and inclusiveness across the Pop Warner community. I can’t wait to get to work and partner with the many people across the country who make our organization so great for the kids.”
