Pop Warner Invitational
The Pop Warner Invitational enters its second year and consists of approximately 100 squads. Competition is comprised of both SMALL and LARGE squads in 4 age classifications (Jr. Pee Wee, Pee Wee, Jr. Midget, Midget). Small squads consist of 19 girls and less while large squads can have up to 35 girls competing together. The competition takes place once again at the Disney Wide World of Sports® Complex in the Milk House.
Invitational squads are selected by order of placement in their respective Regional Competition. Each selected squad will be asked to sign a form accepting or declining the invitation to the event immediately following the awards ceremony at the Regional Competition. Once a squad declines, the next squad in order of placement will be selected. All decisions are final and must be made at the Regional Championship.
Invitational squads compete for Trophies and a Sportsmanship Award in each Division.
Also, the first place squad in each division will get an automatic bid to compete at the National Championship in each small and large division.
For a cheerleading or dance squad, the difficult road to the national championship is quite similar to that of the football teams'. A spirit squad will showcase their best 2:30 routine complete with music and cheering at a league championship level. The top 2 squads advance to regional competition if more than five squads compete in a single division. At regional competition, a spirit squad will again perform their top 2:30 routine in hopes of winning.
The 2003 Pop Warner Invitational will take place on Tuesday, December 9 and Wednesday, December 10, both days starting at 8:00 a.m.
