Wescon Region Pop Warner:
States: Arizona, Hawaii, Southern California & Southern Nevada
RCDC: Yvonne Hosaka
There are 12 leagues in Wescon and approximately 480 teams.
The Wescon Regional events are held every year on the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving. The venue for the regional cheer and dance championships vary yearly. Some of the locations have been in Southern California (Aztec Center, Bren Center, Citizen Business Bank and Long Branch Arena), as well as the University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona.
Yvonne states because our Region is so widely spread apart I don’t have the opportunity to attend most of the regional games. However those that I’ve had the chance to participate in; these teams distribute signs to their fans for utilization during the game to assist with side line chants and crowd involvement. Some of the teams have special jingles when a touch down is scored. Other Wescon teams do a friendship circle after they have shared their half time routines and some exchange gifts. All of the teams go out of their way to assure the children have fun and walk away with a positive experience.
The Wescon Region has approximately sixty year round teams. Most of the Wescon’s year round teams participate in JAMZ Youth Nationals held every year in Las Vegas during the last week in January or the first week of February. Some teams also participate in the Sharp International held in California, as well as the Aloha Spirit Championship held in Honolulu. Most of the teams end their year round season toward the end of April as a large portion of the participants in Wescon play other sports, such as volleyball, basketball and softball.
All the Wescon teams agree that the National Pop Warner Championships is by far their highest ambition. The teams feel this is a wonderful opportunity to have fun, to meet other participant’s around the country, as well as a chance to win a National Pop Warner tile.
