Southeast Michigan Pop Warner 2008 Cheer Jam:
Southeast Michigan Pop Warner Football League hosted a league wide camp on Aug. 31, 2008 at Troy Gymnastics center. This was our second year having a camp at home. Joey Delaney and the Ohio State all girl competitive cheer team were the instructors. This was a camp that targeted skills such as basic techniques, motion, jumps, stunts, pyramids, sideline chants and game day content.
We had 186 cheerleaders from 9 of our 11 associations present. We were also able to simultaneously run a dance class with the assistance of the Ohio State Dance Team. They focused on dance technique such as turns, leaps, styles, and choreography, the dance teams from SEMPWFL got a real work out! The coaches were not left out they received instruction from Joey and they choreographed a unity dance for the cheerleaders that they will perform at the local competition all together.
Each cheerleader was given great instruction and assistance. It really helped to have a college cheer team show you how it’s done. Every girl had a great time as well as educational experience. It was also very helpful for our coaches. Hands on experience is the best experience. I have been asked to put together an additional camp but I think I’ll wait until next year. I was really pleased at how our children all worked together when they all looked alike.

Howell Pop Warner Cheer Camp Fun:
Howell Pop Warner from the Jersey Shore League and the Eastern Region had their first annual Cheer Camp in June 2008. Hosted by their Year Round Cheer teams and Instructed by Universal Cheerleaders Assoc (UCA), about seventy cheerleaders attended the Two day event and a great time was had by all.
On Day One, Six instructors from UCA went over basic moves with the Girls such as Arm drills, Voice projection, Conditioning, and Lots of Smiles. The instructors broke the girls up into Three age divisions and taught each group their own Cheer, Dance and some stunting moves. Both the Instructors and the cheerleaders were having a lot of fun. The next day of the Camp the Three groups of Cheerleaders were told they would be performing what they had learned for their Parents at the end of that day. All three groups worked very hard all day to perfect their routine. they were learning so they could shine together.
In Attendance for the camp was Lisa Moroski (National Cheer and Dance Coordinator), Beth Deitz (National Pop Warner Event Coordinator), Jim Van Wie (Jersey Shore Cheer & Dance Commissioner), Kerry Lorenca (Jersey Shore Asst. Cheer & Dance Commissioner), and Mindy Doyle (Howell Pop Warner Vice Pres of Cheerleading). All were very pleased how well the Camp was run and the fun the girls were having.
As the 2nd day was ending the Parents started gathering on the Bleachers. The girls were doing their final run through on the Football field. The announcer’s booth came alive with music and each group was announced to perform their routine. It was a great show and a Successful Camp.
Mindy Doyle said "she can’t wait to do a bigger and better camp next year and can see the numbers of cheerleaders attending growing!"
