Addition of 20-Acre Hess Sports Fields Marks First Expansion of Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex March 4, 2003
March 4, 2004 -- (L-R) Reggie Williams, vice president of Disney Sports Attractions, Borden Walker, president of Refining and Marketing of Amerada Hess Corp., and Lee Cockerell, executive vice president of Walt Disney World Operations are all smiles following today's announcement of the 20-acre field and diamond expansion at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The expansion will include new multi-sport fields for soccer, football, lacrosse and other sports, as well as new diamonds for baseball and softball. Ground will be broken this month for the fields, which will open in August 2004. This is the first expansion of Disney's Wide World of Sports in the eight-year history of the 200-acre complex. Following the ceremony, Walker threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the spring training game between the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers at Disney's Cracker Jack Stadium.
