The CLASSY Awards aren't just a popularity contest—they focus on tangible action and results. The CLASSY Awards recognize and highlight the greatest philanthropic achievements—large and small—by individuals and organizations giving back to the community. Last year's award winners rappelled off buildings to raise money, started orphanages for abused and neglected children in Tijuana, and built giant structures out of tens of thousands of cans to collect food donations. Get your supporters to share how you are giving back!

The 2nd Annual CLASSY Awards are hosted by StayClassy, the leader in social fundraising for nonprofits, and their partners: NBC Bay Area, NBC Chicago, NBC Los Angeles, NBC New York, NBC San Diego and NBC Washington.

Known locally as the "Academy Awards® of Philanthropy," the CLASSY Awards was born in the fall of 2009 when the StayClassy team realized that local charities, businesses and volunteers weren't getting the recognition they deserved for their amazing contributions to the San Diego community.

With some promotional help from NBC San Diego and relying heavily on our Facebook and Twitter friends, we launched online nominations and voting only a month before the award show. Our hope was that at least a few dozen charities would be nominated, but our expectations were soon blown away as hundreds of nominations poured in. By the evening of the event, 17,000 votes had been cast and an astonishing 700 people attended San Diego's first CLASSY philanthropic awards show. To say we we're tremendously proud of 'America's Finest City' would be an understatement.

As we planned for 2010, we considered the overwhelmingly positive response we received in San Diego and knew it was important to expand the event outside county lines. Millions of people across the country selflessly give back to their communities every day and we wanted to make 2010 the year they were recognized for their efforts. For that reason, charities, businesses and individuals in seven (7) additional philanthropic cities are eligible to win a CLASSY Award in 2010. It is our hope that driving national attention to the charitable efforts happening across the country will inspire more individuals to get involved in their communities.
