Just 36 hours before the New Orleans Saints began celebrating their first-ever NFL Super Bowl title, the 2010 Pop Warner Adrenalyn Bowl presented by Panini helped kick off the festivities leading up to sports' grandest event.
Highlighted by an all-star cast of celebrity coaches, including Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow as well as NFL Pro-Bowlers Davin Joseph (G-Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and DeAngelo Williams (RB-Carolina Panthers), the annual "Game before the Game" featured an exciting afternoon of football, fun and sportsmanship for Pop Warner players and fans at Hallandale High School. Singer, songwriter & producer Brian McKnight also stopped by the event.
"It's the experience of a lifetime going and helping coach these kids on the field," commented Joseph, a Hallandale HS alum. "I got a chance to interact with the kids and the coaches on both sides, both teams, and really get to know really what the Pop Warner program is all about. It's great for my community to see the kids do well, interact with good coaches and really have a high level of football."
"DeAngelo Williams, Tim Tebow, Brian McKnight - it was good to see everybody," added Joseph. "You see the guys having fun and really interacting and enjoying the kids and the kids really enjoying the players, so it's really universal. It's kind of neat to see the guys elsewhere hold the same standard as we do here."
This year's event featured two exhibition games between local Pop Warner teams. The morning game featured two teams from the Mitey Mite Division (ages 7-9), one of Pop Warner's youngest age-weight divisions, as the Palmetto Raiders took on the Little River Saints. Both teams are members of the host league, Greater Miami Pop Warner.
In the second game, the
Florida City Razorbacks competed against the Palmetto Raiders in a matchup of the Pee Wee division (ages 9-11). Throughout the game, both teams were coached by Tebow, Joseph & Williams.
"We got to meet Tim Tebow and DeAngelo Williams. You don't get to do that every day," said 13-year-old DeSean, a member of the Palmetto Raiders.
A handful of special presentations were made during halftime of the second game. First, four Pop Warner national championship teams were honored for their remarkable 2009 seasons, which concluded with them hoisting up the Pop Warner Super Bowl trophy in their respective divisions.
On hand to receive their honors were the Greater Goulds Rams (Division II Midget Champion) and the Liberty City Warriors (Division I Jr. Pee Wee Champion) from the Greater Miami Pop Warner League as well as the 2009 Division II Jr. Midget Champion Port St. Lucie Gold Pirates from the Treasure Coast Conference. A representative for the Richmond Giants (Division I Midget Champion) was also on hand for the presentation.
Another special moment came immediately following those presentations, in which representatives from the Greater Miami Pop Warner league were presented with a $2,500 check from Panini America, the event sponsor, for hosting this year's Pop Warner Adrenalyn Bowl. In a strong showing of their generosity, Greater Miami announced that they will be donating all proceeds from this year's event to the American Red Cross Haitian Relief Efforts. "I have family in Haiti, so it's great to see an entire country really get involved with the relief efforts," said Joseph, a native of Haiti. "It's just a great sign of this world becoming one world instead of being so separated and divided and it was pretty cool to be involved in something like that."
Pop Warner would like to thank the following organizations for their support and assistance with this year's event: Panini Collectibles, Greater Miami Pop Warner, Hallandale Police Department, the new Hallandale Pop Warner Association, Russell Athletic, Spalding, Schutt, BRAX Spirit Cups,
SE Video, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as well as this year's celebrity coaches.

Adrenalyn Bowl Overview: The event is designed to give Pop Warner participants in the Super Bowl Host city the opportunity to be a part of Super Bowl week festivities. The event is sponsored by Panini, the official trading card sponsor of Pop Warner and the NBA, and an official NFL licensee. Panini is launching a brand new product, Adrenalyn, an interactive trading card game that will launch first in the NBA, with plans to launch in other sports including football.
The Pop Warner Adrenalyn Bowl and the Super Bowl serves as a preview to the launch of Adrenalyn which will be unveiled the following week at the NBA All-Star game, but serves as an opportunity to provide advance promotion and engage kids in the Southern Florida market. The Adrenalyn Bowl follows the Donruss Pop Warner Classic and serves as a fundraiser for the local Pop Warner program, Greater Miami Pop Warner and helps to strengthen community ties. |
