Nick Saban ScholarshipLANGHORNE, Penn. - Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc., the nation’s largest and oldest youth football, cheer and dance organization, today announced the Nick Saban, Sr. Scholarship Fund.

As the organization’s first-ever named scholarship, the Nick Saban, Sr. Scholarship will honor the father of the University of Alabama head football coach for his commitment to Pop Warner, and the emphasis he placed on academic achievement for athletes.

Pop Warner annually recognizes the academic achievements of more than 9,000 football players, cheerleaders and dancers through the Pop Warner Academic All-American Program.

In 2013, Pop Warner surpassed $1.1 million dollars in total scholarships awarded to the top scholar-athletes nationwide.

Pop Warner will annually select recipients of the Nick Saban, Sr. Scholarship Fund based on academic achievement and demonstration of leadership qualities on and off the field.

Alabama Coach Nick Saban grew up playing for his father’s Pop Warner team in Fairmont, West Virginia, a program started by Nick Saban, Sr.

Coach Saban has continued the family’s commitment to the organization by inviting Pop Warner coaches to participate in his annual youth football camp.

“The Sabans are long-time supporters of the Pop Warner program, and of our pillars of academic and athletic achievement,” said Pop Warner Executive Director Jon Butler. “As such highly respected individuals within the football community, the Sabans present an exceptional choice for our first-ever named scholarship fund.”

“It is an immense honor for Pop Warner to dedicate its first-ever named scholarship fund to my father,” said Nick Saban. “The Nick Saban, Sr. Scholarship Fund is a truly meaningful way to honor my father’s commitment to the Pop Warner program and the great game of football, and the strong emphasis he placed on academic excellence.”
