Pop Warner Statement on Passing of NCAA President Myles Brand
LANGHORNE, PA – Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc., the world’s largest and oldest youth football, cheer and dance organization, and the only youth sports organization that mandates participants maintain academic proficiency in order to participate, has issued the following statement on the passing of NCAA President Myles Brand.
Pop Warner presented Myles Brand with its most prestigious award, The Warner Award, this past spring. The Warner Award is presented to an individual who has achieved excellence in athletics, scholarship and life’s endeavors with integrity and humanity.
“Brand’s legacy will be his commitment to restoring the importance of academics in college athletics. He will always be remembered for the academic reforms he implemented that ensure college athletes graduate and are as successful in the boardroom as they were on the field of play. His efforts helped thousands of Pop Warner players understand the value of our academic program and his leadership will be missed. Our sympathies go out to his family, friends and colleagues.”
