Pop Warner College Football Award Winner Prince Amukamara Gives Assist to Links
As a member of the Super Bowl XLVI champion New York Giants, he could have a new pair of cleats every day of the year if he so desired. Such is the exalted life of an NFL player. Prince Amukamara has known humbler times.
"Playing Pop Warner football, my coaches would have to buy my cleats," the former Nebraska cornerback said.
He wore the same pair for three straight seasons from ages 12-to-14. Face it, life's no fun when your feet hurt.
So, let's just call him Prince for a day. He certainly was prince-like Tuesday morning, handing out cleats and workout jerseys to Lincoln High players at Beechner Field. He surprised the players when he showed up at the team's outdoor conditioning session with boxes of goods.
All told, Amukamara, a native of Glendale, Ariz., donated nearly $10,000 worth of cleats and other apparel, said Blake Lawrence, also a former Husker, who helped arrange the gesture.
