BEACON HOUSE FALCONS WIN POP WARNER’S DIVISION I PEE WEE SUPER BOWL
ORLANDO, FL (December 8, 2007) – The Beacon House Falcons of Washington, DC defeated the Tustin Black Cobras of Tustin, CA today 38-14 in the 2007 Pop Warner Division I Pee Wee Super Bowl at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex.
The Pop Warner Super Bowl began with 64 football teams representing more than 8 Pop Warner regions including teams from both Alaska and Hawaii.
The Beacon House Falcons victory began with their 34-0 defeat against the Mission Hill Bucs (MA) during the quarter-final game on Sunday. They moved to the semi-final championship game, played on Wednesday, December 5, where they defeated the Coul-Oak Steelers (NC) 34-0 advancing them to the Pop Warner Super Bowl Championship.
The Falcons started off with a touchdown pass from quarterback Darrell Boatwright to wide receiver Marvin Stewart Jr. in the first quarter. In the second quarter of the game, Tustin held Beacon House to 3 offensive plays before the half. With 7 seconds left in the half, the Cobras quarterback Diontre Rodriguez had a 10-yard pass to the Beacon House 3 yard line. With only 2.7 seconds left, Tustin ran an inside reverse to tailback Mack Montoya, for the touchdown tying the game 6-6. The Cobras then kicked the extra point ending the half 8-6 (Pop Warner gives two points to encourage kicking).
On the ensuing kickoff the Cobras squib kicked the ball hitting a Beacon House player and the Cobras recovered the ball with 1 second left. Before the half ended there was a penalty called against the Falcons giving the Cobras an un-timed down. Cobras quarterback Diontre Rodriguez, took advantage of the down scoring another touchdown leading the Cobras to a 14-6 lead against the Falcons before the half.
In the third quarter the Falcons offense took over the game as running back Keith Meyers Jr. scored a 28-yard touchdown run to bring the game to 14-12. In the fourth quarter, the Falcons went on to score 26 unanswered points as quarterback Darrell Boatwright began the fourth quarter throwing a 76-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Guwan Quigley, followed by an extra point taking the lead 19-12. Beacon House defensive player Naphtali Wooten, recovered a fumble and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown.
Quarterback Marvin Stewart Jr. of the Falcons added another touchdown with a 50 yard run. The Falcons would close out the game when running back Arturo Brown broke away for a 40-yard touchdown while his teammate Ashton Briscoe scored the extra point to go up 38-14 to win the Division 1 Pop Warner Super Bowl Pee Wee Championship.
