Hunterdon (NJ) vs. West Haven (CT)

“Huskies Rip Seahawks”

The powerful Hunderdon Huskies from New Jersey opened their quest for a national title in Pop Warner Division II Jr. Pee Wee action this morning with a convincing 35-8 win over a tough West Haven Seahawks team from Connecticut.

The Huskies struck quickly in the opening stanza of this game with a 76 yard scamper around the left side for a touchdown . The PAT was no good, and at 9:07 to go in the first quarter, the score was Huskies 6- Seahawks 0 .

On their next possession, the Huskies had a 30 yard burst off tackle followed by a quarterback keeper to hit pay-dirt again . This time the kick for PAT was good and the Huskies increased their lead to 14-0 .

The Huskies defense held the Seahawks , and their potent offense took over again. They quickly marched all the way to the West Haven 11 yard line. But , as the Huskies quarterback lofted a pass toward the end zone, an alert Seahawk cornerback stepped up, picked off the pass and rambled 90 yards to the Huskies 1 yard line. On the next play, the Seahawks punched it in for the score. The PAT kick was good and the first half ended with the score Huskies 14-Seahawks 8.

Hunderdon started the second half with a nice drive downfield that culminated in a 20 scamper around the Seahawks' left side for a touchdown. The PAT was no good and the Huskies led 20-8.

On their next possession, the Huskies running backs again hammered off tackle and around end , finally propelling them into the end zone for the fourth Hunderton touchdown of the morning. This time , the PAT kick was good and the score stood Huskies 28-Seahwaks 8.

With 9:50 to go in the game, the Huskies notched their fifth touchdown of the game on a 25 yard run around the left side . A one point PAT made the score 35-8 Huskies.

Still, the Seahawks never gave up. Fighting the clock, as well as the Huskies defense, the Seahawks drove to the Hunterdon one-yard line. But, it was not to be for the determined Seahawks, and as the clock ran out, the Huskies prevailed by a score of 35-8.

Congratulations to the Huskies on their opening round win. They now go on to play the Westgrove Redskins from Florida in a semi-final game on Friday. Meanwhile, the Seahawks go on to play the Leander Cedar Parks Bengals in a consolation game, also on Friday. Come on over to Disney Wide World of Sports and catch the action!
