Mesa Eastern (AZ) vs. Manassas (VA)

“Mesa Stings Manassas!”

The first half was a tight ball game with both teams fighting for an advantage. Then, mid-way through the third quarter, with the score knotted up 6-6, Mesa turned on the jets. Storming downfield to the Manassas two-yard line, the Moccasins raced over right tackle for a touchdown. The PAT kick was good and the Moccasins grabbed the lead 14-6 with 7:06 to go in the third quarter.

After the kick to Manassas , the Moccasins' struck again. First, their quick- blitzing linebackers and d-backs forced a fumble on the Manassas fifteen-yard line. Next, the Mocs quarterback sprinted around the left side netting twelve yards to the Mutiny's 3 yard line. From there, a cross-buck by the tailback gained a yard. Finally, the Moccasins quarterback slammed the ball straight ahead and into the end zone. The kick for PAT was good and Mesa padded their lead at 22-6. In the fourth quarter, Mesa added another score, then dug-in on defense to preserve a 28-6 win.

Congratulations to the Mesa Moccasins for an outstanding opening round victory! They now advance to the semi-finals of Division 1 Jr. Midget play on Wednesday. And congratulations , as well, to the Manassas Mutiny for a tough game. The Mutiny go on to a consolation game, also on Wednesday. Both games are slated for Disney's Wide World of Sports.
