Warriors and Cowboys set to do battle

Lake Buena Vista , FL , Saturday, December 11, 2004 - The stage is set, the weather is ideal, and the two teams are ready to do battle. Today, the White Oak Warriors from Montgomery County , MD will square off against the defending champion Dale City Cowboys from Prince William County in Virginia for the Division I Midget National title at 3:00 PM at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.

This is a familiar spot for both teams, so they have dealt with the pressure before. 2004 marks the fourth consecutive season that the Cowboys are competing in the Pop Warner Super Bowl, having won the title last year by defeating the Marshall Heights Bison from Maryland 7-6. For the Warriors, they have competed in the Super Bowl several years, and won the title in 2002 in the Junior Midget Division.

While the Cowboys are the defending champions, many feel it is the Warriors who are favorites to win it all this year. This year, they have compiled a 14-0 record under head coach Michael Wills, and have only allowed 14 points while scoring 362 against their opponents! The have breezed through the first two rounds this year, defeating the Waianae Tigers 39-0 in the first round and the Cedar Crest Comets in the second round 22-0.

"The chemistry on this team is just unreal," said White Oak head coach Micheal Wills. "We have all been together since they were just 10 years old; it is a great bunch of kids."

For the Dale City Cowboys, the road has been a little tougher. After rolling through a regular season basically unchallenged, they have faced two very dificult opponents in the first two rounds here. In the first round, they out dueled the Dorchester Eagles from Boston 19-12, and outlasted a tough Goulds Rams' team from Miami 28-22, winning that game in overtime.

We have a lot of new guys on our team," said Cowboy's Assistant Coach D.J. Palmer. "However, our veteran players have really stepped up and helped pick up the rest of the team."

Both teams have had a history of success in the Pop Warner Super Bowl over the years, and this year's game is shaping up to be one of the best of all times. Once again, NFL Flims will be on hand to tape today's game as part of a one hour Pop Warner Super Bowl special to be aired at a later date.
