Roughriders rough up the Eagles

In the Midget Division I consolation game The Oak Grove Roughriders beat out the Dorchester Eagles in a late second half come back. Eagles led the game all the way until the third and fourth quarters when the Roughriders came back with two touchdowns to seal the win.

At the start of the second half the score was 6-0 and would remain that way for part of the third quarter. With about 7 minutes left in the third quarter the Roughriders took over the ball at half field and took the ball to the end zone. The offense completed a 12 yard touchdown pass in order to become tied with the Eagles. They converted the PAT to give them a two point lead. At the end of the third quarter the score was 8-6.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter the Eagles forced a fumble from the Roughriders stopping them on the Eagles' 13 yard line. But the Roughrider defense came up huge not allowing them to get the 1 st down.

The ball changed possession on loss of downs. The Oak Grove offense took the ball and the Eagles defense was plagued with penalties in this defense series. After two personal fouls and an unsportsmanlike play call on the Eagles, the Roughriders found themselves on the one yard line with four chances. They only needed two chances to run it into the end zone. After making the PAT they are now ahead by the score of 16-8. Dorchester had one more chance but couldn't get the offense going because the Roughrider defense stood strong.

The Head coach of the Roughriders, Tony Hurston, was thrilled with their win, he felt his defense played very strong all game, “We had great defense, a couple of key plays on offense, but defense wins championships and that's what happened today.”

Congratulations to both the Oak Grove Roughriders and the Dorchester Eagles for a great performance today and a great season.
