Redskins too much for Wolfpack!

In the Midget league the West Grove Redskins beat the Reno Wolfpack by staying composed and playing strong defense until the end. The Redskins opened up the half by completing and 76 yard touchdown pass and kicked for 2 giving them a 8-0 lead. With 2:53 left in the quarter the number 2 for the redskins ran in from 1 yard out to put West groove ahead by 16 points to end the quarter.

In the middle of the second quarter the Wolf pack started to get into the game, they scored on a quarter back sneak with 7:35 to go in the half. After converting the point after the score was 16-8. On the redskins very next drive they went from the 50 yard line all the way to the ten taking 4:43 off the clock. The Wolf pack held their defensive line for three plays and had the redskins at 4th and goal. On fourth down the Redskin's quarter back, number 1, kept the football and ran in for the touchdown. The Redskins went for two and converted making the score 24-8.

With 2:34 seconds remaining in the half the wolf pack had the ball on their 37 yard line. After a couple of first downs and one 15 yard penalty on the redskins, the wolf pack threw for the end zone. A spectacular catch was made by the Wolf pack receiver but ruled out of bounds by the official. On the very next play the wolf pack would make it into the end zone on a hitch and trail up the right side of the field. On the ensuing kickoff the Wolf pack recovered the onside kick and with 49 seconds left down by one touchdown it appeared as if the wolf pack had a chance to tie the game before half time. The Redskins defense came up big and stopped them forcing them to put after just three plays.

The score at the half was 24-16.

The second half was all Redskins. With 8:15 left in the third quarter Redskin's quarter back completed a 64 yard touchdown pass to give West Groove a 32-16 advantage. The rest of the game was all Redskins' defense. The Redskin's defense made two very important interceptions when the Wolf Pack offense seemed to be gaining momentum. One interception was made when the Wolf Packs threw the ball towards the end zone. This stopped the Reno offense and gave the ball back the Redskin's who scored again. The Redskin's defense would again come up with another interception on the Wolf Pack's next drive The West Groove's quarter back would take a knee to end the game.

Head Coach of the West Groove Redskins, Andre Brown attributed the win to “the leadership of boys that played last year and years before.” He felt “along with hard work, practice, and dedication” his team was able to pull out the victory.
