Overtown Rattles Lansdale Cannoneers
The Overtown Rattlers were victorious over the Lansdale Cannoneers in the first round game of Division 1 Jr. Pee Wee League.
The Rattlers made their first strike on the Cannoneers late in the first quarter. With the combination of two consecutive 20 yard runs by #1 and #7, the Rattlers found themselves on the 2 yard line. On the following play, #7 received the hand off and ran in for the first score of the game. The Rattlers attempt at the PAT was unsuccessful putting them up 6-0 with 16 seconds left in the first quarter.
After making some adjustments on defense, the Cannoneers were able to put a stop on the Rattlers running offense. The Cannoneers fired their way down field through a series of solid running plays. After a first down, the Cannoneers launched their attack with a 17 yard run by #25 into the end zone. The failed PAT tied the score at 6-6 with 45 seconds left in the half.
Starting off the second half, the Cannoneers kicker sent a big boot forcing the Rattlers to start at their own 5 yard line. The Cannoneers' defense forced the Rattlers to punt on 4 th and 6. After the punt the Cannonners were in great field position at the Rattlers 24 yard line. Unfortunately a string of penalties pushed the Cannoneers back and they turned the ball back over on downs. Strong defense from both teams brought about a scoreless third quarter.
The Rattlers defense stood strong by stopping the Cannoneers on 4 th and short. Fueling off the adrenaline, the Rattlers came up with a big conversion on 4 th and 6 by a hand off to #7 to get the first down. The following play the Cannoneers were called on a personal foul which put the Rattlers on the 5 yard line. The Rattlers capitalized on the scoring opportunity as #7 took the hand off up the middle in for the score. The Cannoneers held strong on the PAT but the Rattlers went up 12-6.
As the Cannoneers attempted to rally for another score, their fight was stifled on the defensive play by the Rattlers #12. As the Cannoneers quarterback dropped back to throw the pass was picked off. The Rattlers rallied together and ran in for the score to ensure their 18-6 victory.
The Rattlers head coach commented that Lansdale “was a good team, and fought hard.” Congratulations are in order to Lansdale as the Cannoneers are the first offensive score against the Rattlers all season. The Rattlers are going to focus on putting the little things together, as the coach says “we can never be over prepared.”
Congratulations to both teams for a hard fought game on the field. The Rattlers will play for the Tomlin Championship on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
