Luther Campbell Taking Pop Warner By Storm
"Uncle Luke," Founder of 2 Live Crew leads Liberty City Warriors to Pop Warner Super Bowl.

Founding Member of 2 Live Crew

Luther Campbell, one of the first successful entrepreneurs in hip hop, talents reach farther then the studio, girls, and rap music. Forever an avid sports fan, Campbell has taken to giving back to the community by coaching Pop Warner football, an activity he has taken pride in doing for more than two decades.

This year is particularly important because, as the head coach, Campbell has taken the Liberty City Warriors all the way to the top. The team will be playing at he Pop Warner Super Bowl national championship competing for the #1 spot from December 8th – December 11th in Orlando, Florida at Disney World's World of Sports Complex.

“This season is very important to me," said Campbell. "I put my career on hold. I have an album that was supposed to come out this year, but these kids need my full attention and I can't think of anything better that I would like to do.”

The Liberty City Warriors, from the Greater Miami Pop Warner League, are in this year's Division I Junior Midgetbracket, and face off with the Worcester Vikings from Mass. in the first round of the Pop Warner Super Bowl. During the regular season, the Warriors went 5-1-1, and defeated two very good teams in the Goulds Rams and the Sweetwater Falcons to get to the Super Bowl.

Back in 1998, Liberty City was represented in the Jr. Pee Wee Division as they won the National Championship, but this is the first National Championship trip for the twenty-year Pop Warner veteran coach.

Pop Warner has been around for 75 years and has spawned the careers of many top pro football players including Emmitt Smith, Ty Law, and Ray Lewis. Former Liberty City Warriors players in the NFL include Antonio Bryan of the Cleveland Browns, and Chad Johnson of the Cincinnati Bengals. Pro-bowler Warren Sapp of the Oakland Raiders is a Liberty City Warriors team sponsor.

Founded as a way to keep wayward boys out of trouble, the organization also assists kids in doing the best they can academically. “I would say that 95% of our kids have shown progression in academics. In fact, one of our kids this year was a failing student at the start and right now he is an all A student,” states Campbell. “With the academic progress reporting system that I have implemented for our league, I'd like to think that I am not only helping develop great athletes but scholars as well.”

Luther Campbell, rap history maker and founding member of the 2 Live Crew ensured that the freedom of speech was a right of every recording artist by taking his “First Amendment” case all the way to the Supreme Court and winning the decision. Campbell also created the first street team ever with the start of his independent label Luke Records. Luther Campbell, is an absolute pioneer in the recording business, he is now taking his intellect and know how to the inner city, his hometown of Liberty City, Miami to help kids be the best they can be.
