FINAL: Palo Alto Knights (CA) 32, Southeast Apaches (TX) 6

Knights Run Away from Apaches 32-6

After coming to the Pop Warner Super bowl last year and losing 30-0 in the opening game the Palo Alto team was crushed. They came back this year looking to get a win. That is exactly what this very diverse team has done. This team has many different people competing on their team including a girl, who head Coach Mike Phia, believes “is a very big leader on the team, she plays on both sides of the ball and no one considerers her girl.” Not only did they come back here and win but they won big they beat the Southeast Apaches by a final score of 32-6.

The Knights started off the game very strong by recovering an onside kick on the first play of the game. On the first play from scrimmage with the ball on the 37 yard line their running back, number 2, ran from 37 yards out. On the ensuing kickoff the Knights again attempted an onside kick but the Apaches were able to cover the ball up before the Knights could get there. The Knights defense stopped the Apaches and didn't even allow them a first down on their opening drive. The Knights took over after four downs and their offense came back on the field to put some more points on the field. On second down the Knights quarter back connected with wide receiver, number 80, for a 37 yard touchdown pass. With neither team scoring in the second quarter the score at the half was 12-0.

At the beginning of the second half the Apache defense made some key defensive plays and with 7:13 remaining in the quarter the Apache offense put some points on the board. The Apache running back took the ball in for a 52 yard touchdown run. When the Knights got the ball back they scored another touchdown with a flea flicker from number 2 to number 44. At the end of the 4 th quarter the score was 20-6.

The fourth quarter was all about the Knights defense, they forced two major turnovers one which the Knights offense converted into six points and the other turnover was an interception which they ran back for a touchdown. The final score of the game was 32-6.

Mike Piha calls this season “magical.” “The kids played an amazing and incredible football game”
