Hawks continue hot streak by beating Saints
Fresh off of their 30-12 victory over the North Philadelphia Aztecs in the Regional Championship game on Saturday, November 28, the Hazlet Hawks cruised to a 37-12 first round victory over the St. Phillips Saints from Texas.
It was a long road from the cold northeast in the Jersey Shore, but winning this first round game made the trip worthwhile.
"I feel good right now," said Hawks head coach Greg Fitzpatrick. This is the step we had to take to get to the championship, and our kids were up and focused."
You might say the football gods are routing for the east coast of New Jersey this week, especially in Hazlet. Last night, the high school football team from Hazlet finished a remarkable season and captured the state championships. With a performance like this today, you could imagine the Hawks taking home the coveted Pop Warner national title.
"We didnt have any penalties and I think that made a big difference in the game," said Fitzpatrick. "We're just glad to be here and I am just proud as heck of these kids!"
The Hazlet Hawks move on to face a pretty tough Manassas Mutiny team from Virginia, who defeated the local favorit East Mannatee Bulldogs (FL) today by the score of 42-24. That game will be on Friday, December 10, at 11:00 AM. The St. Phillips Saints go on to play the Bulldogs in the consolation game on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
