Cougars defeat Cowboys in first Super Bowl appearance
Welcome to Pop Warner, Columbus, OH!
The Mid-Ohio Pop Warner League was formed this year with several football teams and cheer & dance squads...and 3 football teams are here this week competing for the national championship of Pop Warner football! Pretty good start I would say.
In the first try on Sunday, the Columbus Daystars (OH) fell just one point short of beating the
Cedar Crest Comets (TX) in the first round of Division I Midget action. The Cougars were prepared today to step up and claim the first postseason win for the franchise. They did so in impressive fashion, defeating the Southside Cowboys 12-0.
"It feels good, it feels very good to be here," said Cougar's head coach Victor Parker. "We just tried to stay focused and keep our head in the game."
The displayed a solid running game and a dominating defense. In the past two games, the Cougars have blanked both opponents and had enough offense to get them the victory. In the Mid-America Regional Cahmpionships last week, the Cougars defeated the Midget favorite Robbins Eagles by the score of 6-0. Today looked like a very similar game.
"It is pretty interesting (participating in Pop Warner)," said Parker. And when asked about their future in Pop Warner, Parker's reply..."We're here to stay!"
Maybe the most unbelievable aspect of the Cougar's success, they have played all season with not one Older-Lighter on the team. Pretty impressive! They will square off against the Maryland Raiders for the 2004 Tomlin Championship on Friday, December 10 at 3:00 PM. The Cowboys will battle the Waianae Tigers (HI) in the consolation round, also on Friday.
