Cobras bounce back to stun Jaguars
The Tustin Black Cobras from Arizona had never trailed in a game this whole year. So when the Norwalk Jaguars jumped out in front of the Cobras late in the second half, they knew they had to focus and regroup. And the did just that! They overcame a 7-0 lead at the half to storm back and overtake the Jaguars 8-7 in a trmendous matchup.
"I cant tell you how proud I am of this team," said Cobras head coach Matt Healy. "These boys just have so much committment and heart. They tested their character, and tested thier heart, and like true champions came out on top!"
Norwalk seemed to have compete control of the game in the first half, and displayed a very impressive passing attack that drove them up and down the field. The only time, however, that they could capitalize was on a two-yard TD scamper late in the second quarter to the side of the field. With the conversion attempt successful, the Jaguars were on top 7-0 heading in to halftime.
However, as Healy mentioned, they bounced back like true champs. A routine handoff in the third quarter was busted wide open by the Cobra's running back as he scampered 45 yards for the score. The Cobras had another trick up their sleeve, running out their great kicker to convert on the 2-point kick. Just like that, the Cobras were back in front 8-7, in a position they are more familiar with.
Defense was the theme for the rest of the game, as the Cobras didnt allow the Jaguars to get very close to their goalline for the rest of the game. The defense was quick, and made several sure-handed tackles to wrap up Jaguar's defenders. The Jaguars couldnt punch it in, and the Cobras had themselves a 7-6 victory.
"Our defense has been great, they have really been the heart and soul of this team," said Healy. "I just can't say enough about their performance."
Congratulations to both team on a well-played game. The Cobras move on to play for the Tomlin Championship on Saturday at 9:00 a.m against the Overtown Optimist Club from Florida. The Jaguars will wrap up their season against the Lansdale Cannoneers in the consolation bracket..
